Pork Products

Pork is the household name of the flesh obtained from the domestic pig. Pigs are also cultivated in farms. The fresh meats are usually consumed, but with stringent refrigeration, it can be stored for a while. Pork products include ham and bacon, sausages and salami.
Pork is one of the most frequently consumed meats taken all over the world except in the Muslim majority countries due their taboo. It is about thirty-eight per cent of the total meat intakes a day. Pork was mentioned in the literatures in ancient ages, often in 5000 BC.
There are different cuts of pork- the chumps, belly, loin, leg, ribs etc. Head portion is not consumed usually except in some medieval English banquets.
Pork is rich source of first class protein. Large number of delicacy can be made from pork meat.

Risks

Intake of underdone pork can be dangerous if the flesh contains worm. A specific type of worm Taenia saginata (scientific name) can be present inside the flesh of the infected pig. It the food preparation is not cooked properly, it may give rise to Neurocysticercosis- a disease of the brain.

Suggestions

Always boil the pork properly.
Do not store pork for long time.
Do not take roasted pork in not so known restaurants.

Recommended daily allowance

Sixty grams of pork can be taken a day by a healthy young adult.
